artikel - hardware - wd scorpio blue 1tb  in delock usb3.0 gehäuse

usb4
1. Introduction:
Nowadays USB3 gets more and more popular and millions of USB3 chips have already shipped. Time for the manufacturers to adopt their products to USB3 and we are testing here a 2,5"-case from DeLock. The special about this case is the fact that you can put drives with 12,5mm or 14,5mm (and the normal 9,5mm drives) into it.

2. Installation:
Inside the package you'll get the case and a microUSB cable, all needed screws and a screwdriver next to a flyer about other DeLock products. The case itself looks very good and valuable.

The installation of a drive is very easy: Just open the case (4 screws), put the HDD in and close it - finished! You won't really hear your drive if the case is closed and the case itself doesn't become warm.

Of course you can use the case in a USB2.0 port, the cables and the controller are compatible.

Unlike the DeLock 42475 (Test) there is a microUSB port at the case and two plugs for your PC (only one is need but drives with higher power consumption may need both).

The internal controller can handle SATA1 and SATA2 drives. We put in a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1Tb (WD10TPVT) drive which is 12,5mm high.

3. Performance:
usb4
Case connected @ USB3.0 port (NEC controller)
 usb3
Case connected @ USB2.0 (AMD SB750)
You can see right now that USB3.0 is much faster than the older interface, but we will check some more real-life tests:

  USB3: USB2:
We copy a 2,34Gb file onto the HDD: 0:55min 1:49min
Then we copied it back to the computer: 0:49min 0:52min

Then we copy 10 extracted MirandaSX directories onto the drive: 2:01min 2:11min
And copied back onto the computer: 0:27min 0:27min

The performance is great, compared to 3,5" drives it lacks a little bit performance but as a pure storage drive it is very good.

4. Temperature:
The case doesn't become warm.

5. Silence:
When you put your ear onto the case you can hear your drive while reading/writing some files, but it's generally very silent.

6. Other:
You can post comments into this thread posten (geht vorerst auch ohne Anmeldung).

7. Conclusion:
Conclusion:  very recommendable!

The case is very valuable, silent and cool. There is nothing to complain about and even the price is ok compared to other products. So we suggest buying this case if you need a 2,5" case for non-standard drives (higher drives) with the fresh USB3.0 interface.
